Just developed. 2004 RAV4 FWD, 132,000 miles. The drivetrain has a thud when engaging in a gear, forward or reverse. It hesitates slight then engages with a thud that shakes vehicle slight.

Thinking transmission or hopefully CV joint. Checked transmission fluid and it looks OK and at a proper level.

Found that when I have the car stopped with foot on the brake, I get a big rear thud when putting vehicle in reverse.

The vehicle gave a code

"P0776 Toyota - Pressure Control Solenoid 'B' Performance

Possible causes
- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Faulty line pressure solenoid 'B' valve
- Line pressure solenoid 'B' valve harness is open or shorted
- Line pressure solenoid 'B' valve circuit poor electrical connection
What does this mean?

When is the code detected?
The gear required by the Engine Control Module (ECM) does not match the actual gear when driving
Possible symptoms
- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
- Transmission shift shock
P0776 Toyota Description
The line pressure solenoid valve regulates the oil pump discharge pressure to suit the driving condition in response to a signal sent from the Transmission Control Module (TCM)."

Yes, Transmission shift shock, a good description. Will call a transmission shop on Monday.

Also gave a PO776 p/d code which I can't find on the web.

Didn't figure it's worth fixing , so I bought a different vehicle. I still have the RAV4 and will keep it awhile.
