Dynamic Navigation is a free subscription that you get for 3 years It is a cloud-based service that is supposed to download the latest roads ifrom the Toyota database over the Verizon cell network using the DCM module
When I used to enter an address it either said DOWLOADED from the cloud or OPTIMIZED from the cloud. My system no longer says this or shows a cloud next to routes. it says nothing . After I enter a destination. It just acts like regular navigation now Can anybody please verify this or please take a screenshot?
I went to the dealer yesterday and they did not understand what I was telling them They said the navigation system worked fine and I said yes it does but it is using the internal database not the cloud-based Dynamic Navigation.
I even called Toyota Customer Service and they cannot verify if it is working or not. Total frustration and A lack of how any of their products works. When I went to the dealer yesterday they did give me a dealer software update because my navigation screen was crashing and turning off this was supposed to prevent it but since this happened all these other problems started.

I usually use Android auto but last weekend was in bad receiption area and tried the factory navigation. I set my destination and then was clicking around to see alternative routes I got message about downloading from the cloud. Perhaps try that.

The navigation does not always have to download data from cloud. I use it a lot and it sometimes displays the downloading message, not always.

Now that you mention it I used to see the optimize from the cloud message when using my nav system. I haven't seen it for the last month or so. I didn't notice this until you made this post. I'm not sure if anything is wrong or not.

If it doesn’t say optimized from the cloud then it isn’t using dynamic navigation it is using the hard drive in your navigation unit. You can check this out by putting in a business that opened recently If it shows the old location you know it’s not dynamic navigation that is how I discovered it.

So, at the end of the 3 year trial, do you have an up to date map loaded on your RAV? Does it remember the updates after the trial ends? I would imagine the updates are only for the places that you drove in recently.

No it doesn’t remember any of the dynamic navigation updates if a business moves it just goes by the hard drive that was loaded into the car when you bought it.
my dynamic navigation hasn’t worked for two weeks I have a case number with Toyota and they never call me back. I asked for updates and all I hear is that they’re working on it. So if my cable TV goes out after a couple weeks you really think they can get away with that so I don’t know why Toyota does.

I just got an update from Toyota they are bringing in an outside technology specialist to look into this. so I need to bring the car back to the dealership They don’t know why it is not working but they are taking this very seriously to try to fix it now.
i’m not happy it’s not working but I am really happy with Toyota‘s response at this point. They escalated this way up the food chain. I also think this might be affecting others so you should check to see if your dynamic navigation is working.

When I verbally enter a destination, the cloud logo in the upper left of the screen spins. But I don't get the message of downloading or optimizing from the cloud any more. Their help line asked me to ensure the Dynamic Route setting is turned on (setup/navigation/Dynamic route on). My settings are on. I may wait until my next oil change to deal with this.
Please keep us posted.

My car was worked on by The Toyota Dealer for the entire day, and they were not able to fix the Dynamic Navigation.
They are going to continue to try to fix the problem tomorrow. I don’t believe Toyota is any closer to a solution at this time. The car is staying at the dealership. They gave me a loaner.

Ugh! I'm having the same problem with the dynamic navigation and have been watching this thread. I also notice that when I check for software updates I get a "connection not available" message. I'm wondering if the dynamic nav and update check issues are related to the DCM signal not working. I wonder if they can reboot/repair the DCM?

Phone based navigation such as Waze will almost always be better than Factory Navigation.
Not sure if this is true. Last Saturday I made a 250 mile rode trip. On the way home I set up Waze to direct me home so I could see it's accuracy. I liked how it would announce upcoming rail crossings; I wasn't ware it did. Anyways, on a couple of long straight stretches with no side roads, all of a sudden Waze would say, "turn left" or "turn right". Aaaa, I can't do that Dave. So, I'm not too sure how accurate Waze is but next trip I will attempt the same trek back and use the built-in Nav.

Oh, one other thing, at my return starting point, I had no cell service but I could select my stored home location from Waze but it would error out. I didn't realize this until the built-in Nav worked but Waze did not. I ended up proving my theory for getting the Limited so I would not get lost in a no cell service location. Since I was testing Waze, and when I realized the error issue, I waited until I got cell service and then started Waze.

Waze is an inferior navigational system that does not rely on GPS satellites. It uses your cell phone signal. If you lose your cell signal you are dead in the water. It is also notoriously inaccurate because it can only be as accurate as a triangulation of cell phone towers. GPS will always win for reliability and accuracy. A rare exception is large buildings may block a GPS signal but it will still be more accurate than a cell phone tower.

I received a phone call today from the dealer this afternoon. They have not fixed the Dynamic Navigation. They are keeping the car at the dealership and will work on it again tomorrow.
I have no idea what will be different about tomorrow. I truly believe Toyota has no clue why it doesn’t work or how to fix it at this point.

It’s Friday evening and my Rav is still at the dealer. They have had it for 3 days now with no solution . I never received a phone call Today from the dealer giving me any updates I can only assume it still has not been fixed. I have a brand new Rav4 loaner car they must not be in a hurry to get back.
I am really starting to wonder at this point if they are going to be able to fix it. I never thought it would be so difficult to get the dynamic navigation to work again. This is my update for today I wish I could tell you more.
