I drove a friends 2017 rav4 for an hour on highways and it seemed to take a little more attention to keep it centered as I drove, compared to my pre ious vehicles. I am interested if this is true with the 4.5 gens or in general with these short wheelbases. It won’t keep me from getting a prime, but just putting it out there to see if this is how others feel.

I have not had any issues with the 2017 Rav4 or current generation.

Lack of steering feel is a common complaint on Rav4s since at least 2006 with the introduction of electric power steering, not hard to adjust to tho, just a different feel, I haven't noticed it for years, have no problems staying where I want to be in the lane. There's also Lane Tracing which works well under certain conditions, not so much in others. How a vehicle handles also depends a lot on the road surface, roads that have heavy studded tire wear compound this as the vehicle has a slightly narrower track than the worn track and wants to sway back an forth trying to find the happy medium which there isn't.

What you describe was an issue on my 2014 Corolla. It was pretty tiring trying to keep that thing tracking straight. The electronic steering was too sensitive. No such complaints with my gas ‘19’RAV4.

But I have noticed that the steering wheel always tilts towards the left, by just a bit. I don't think it is the crown of the road. All Toyota cars I have driven have had this.

I don't care for the electric power steering in our '11 RAV4 - seems leaden and dead. Would prefer having no power steering as an option since the steering ratio is conservative (try driving an old British Sprite for quick steering and great feel, for example). The hydraulic power steering on my wife's '10 CR-V has much better feel than my RAV4's electric.
