ERROR: Malfunction in the Electronic Control... Anyone?

So you do not have a OBDII scanner?

Times like these, one is of tremendous value. I've got the Bluedriver and the Carista.

If I encountered the scenario you are in, I would absolutely want to know what had malfunctioned and what the code was.

I have had less than happy experiences with Toyota Dealership Service Departments . . . . . given the dearth of knowledgeable people in the Dealership Service Departments (that I have experienced) . . . . I would be walking up to the Service Adviser with as much (if not more) knowledge than anyone there.

Okay, maybe "dearth" of knowledge isn't quite fair or reasonable.

Care, conscientious, fastidious, integrity, honesty, competent, now those are good descriptors for what is not in abundance.

If there is no other 'contributing' event that could account for your message? I would spit-ball a serious ECM failure. No Christmas Tree light show behavior from your MID panel?

Got my letter Saturday. Calling tomorrow.
. . . wait . . . wut?

You have a '19 RAV4 Hybrid and you received a letter from Toyota regarding the fuel pump and a replacement program? I'm asking because I've checked for TSB's and other bread crumbs and found nothing. I'm interested as I have a '19; rolled off the line in Japan mid-July '19. I have had the tank, sending unit and gasket replaced this past May.

I got a letter (three pages) Saturday describing a Special Service Campaign for my Rav4h VIN that speaks to several other models (all hybrids) specifically including "Certain 2019 Model Year RAV4 Hybrid". Specific in the letter. Nothing referring to any VIN or build date range of cars eligible in the letter. No reference to any factory in the letter. I looked. All models in this wave were in the 2017 to 2019 range and all were hybrids. My guess is hybrids can run for a bit on battery to get you to the side of the road safely which is why we are last or near last

They also described, on the second page, how California required you to have the Recall done. I have no idea why they are calling this a Special Service Campaign as opposed to a Recall but I'll bet their lawyers know. Looking at prior TSB documentation on the same problem in other models I do see where they have made many models and years eligible on different dates in what they self describe as "waves" and in mid year they were in the 13th wave. I presume this is to not overwhelm dealer's maintenance staff and parts availability by dumping 8 years of all models on them all at once.

When I went in to my long time service advisor, he knew all about the issue. And when I said I wanted to schedule an appointment only when he had the parts, he offered me the next day. I elected Thursday early AM drop off Wed night after hours. I'll know more late in the week.

Curiously, the NHTSA web site shows no unrepaired recalls for my VIN.
Mike,
Thank you.
Standing by for more information.
My BlueDriver OBDII scanner shows a high pressure fuel rail and a low pressure fuel rail . . . . . for the direct Injectors and the port injectors respectively. Two discreet pumps?

Having an OBDII scanner still seems to be the smart money with these mobile computer contraptions. Service "Writers" & "Advisers", sales drones, too many "Technicians" are just plain out of their depth with these vehicles.
