I had the dreaded 5 check engine codes that ultimately requires the replacement of the evap canister. DTC P043E, P043F, P2401, P2402, P2419 - Water in EVAP System.

I decided to try what a couple people recommended and use a Scion TC evap unit. Toyota wants about $1000 for
this RAV4 part and the one for the TC on Rock Auto is $149.89US. The part is identical in every way but had a different part number. You have to use your existing brackets but other than that it’s a direct bolt on. I don’t understand how Toyota can charge so much for the RAV4 unit.

Repair took about 20 mins tools required .

-12m and 10m sockets and ratchet
  • Flat screwdriver
  • Drill optional for changing brackets
  • jack and jack stands
So far no check engine lights so far and gas mileage has gone up a little from the looks of it. Below are the comparison images. if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask.

You've thoroughly answered all the questions ever asked about the EVAP canister.
I hope you feel a little sticky because that's what you're getting!

Nice job. I had a rock go through mine and replaced it with a salvage unit, but they wanted almost the same price as your Scion piece. Fixed it at 1/10th cost of dealer.
