So I'm new here, just bought my wife a 2002 Rav4 and got sick of no Keyless entry. I have put after market kits in but they always look hoaky to me so i just wanted factory keyless. but i didnt want to pay 500 for the wireless receiver. besides the fact that i have only ever seen 2 available. So i picked up one from a 2003 seqoia at a junk yard and because they dont really inventory wireless receivers, i got it for 10 bucks. any ways i will post up some pictures later and my process to get it to work, but it was pretty simple and now i have a nice 3 button remote from toyota to lock and unlock my car. I hope this is of some interest to people. Sorry for the short post, college keeps me pretty busy so i wanted to see the response before i spent a lot of time wiring up a procedure.

I have a 2003 sport and want to add keyless entry as well. Do you know the part # of the door control receiver you installed ? the one for our cars is 89741-42120. very few around and the dealer wants $400+. I removed the rear side panel ( drivers side) to find the door control receiver is not there on my car. Where did you get the remotes? does the panic button work? did you have to add the buzzer that is supposed to be somewhere under the hood (driver's side)
any advise would be appreciated
thanks frank

I am very interested in this as well. Just got a 2005 RAV4 and I was dumbfounded that there was no keyless entry. Anyhow, I am a bit confused about where to look for/install the unit itself, I read its near the fuel door release? Can someone describe it better for me or post a picture please?

On a side note, is it worth it to look around at junked RAV4s? see if they have one I can buy out of it?

I am getting frustrated. I have a 2003 rav4 sport with the power door lock option. I am trying to install factor keyless entry. I acquired a used door control receiver part #89741-42120 ( that listed for the car from a recycler that stated it was checked out and worked fine). The ecm would not recognize the receiver once installed to program the transmitter. I brought the car to a local Toyota dealer. They connected it to their programmer and told me there was no additional software required to activate the keyless entry stating the diagnostics stated that the transmitter needed to be replaced. I called Toyota who confirmed the car options and stated I contact a dealer for help. I contacted a different Toyota dealer they quoted me $1100 parts + labor to install the option. They went on to say that the ecm needs to have software added to it to recognize the door control receiver to activate the keyless entry to recognize the door control receiver. Stating just installing a receiver will not allow the keyless to work ( 4hr labor to reprogram & install). different dealer - different information. My next thought was to try to get an ecm from a rav4L that has the keyless as standard). Can anyone tell me if the programming on the ecm is different between the rav4sport & rav 4 L before I spend the money?
