Last year I was driving through rural Utah. It was near sunset and I was driving about 50 mph on a 2 lane highway. Suddenly a deer appeared right in front of me. I had to suddenly swerve to avoid hitting it. "Safety Sense" did nothing.....
I think it would be great if Toyota added deer to car, pedestrian, and bicycle sensing. Maybe one day soon!

Maybe one day Toyota could put a sensor on the roof to avoid an airplane impact or a lightning strike by Zeus.. Realistically, if the car's AI such as it is is programmed to stop itself when it detects an unlimited number of obstacles (newspapers blowing across the road, highway debris, boulders or trees or potholes close by when driving off road) the car would be continually slamming on its brakes. The human driver must bear primary responsibility for accident avoidance and evasive manuevers.

Deer would be a great option for me and many others. I live in a rural area and am continuously avoiding deer and many friends and family have totaled their vehicles when hitting a deer. It's a very serious concern for many people. We are much more likely to hit a deer versus a pedestrian, unlike city folk.

The pre-collision detection even on the 2023 is extremely poor it doesn't really warn you or anything it only activates last second. The CRV on the other hand will warn you will slow you down Will baby you and protect you it's such a sad thing Toyota hasn't improved this as it's the most important part of all the safety systems.

I had mine happen twice now, I got too close to a car waiting to turn left, and it beeped and I evidently got too close cause when I went to go around them and accelerate the pedal did nothing.

My cautionary warning is that if this happens and then you need to move quickly, the car just sits for a bit, I turned my sensitivity down and it hasn't happened since.

Maybe it's telling me that I am driving too agressive!
Sounds kind of similar to the incidents described here
