My driving involves about 90 percent highway and/or steady speed to work day (about 20miles each way). I have averaged between 25-27mpg highway. On a recent trip to/from Asheville NC from Maryland (8 hours each way the vast majority of it at or around posted 65mph, my mileage actually hit 30mpg). I have a 2009 2.5L AWD base with 16" wheels.

As an aside, my wife drives into the city for work (2008 CRV) and her mileage is always in the low 20's.

It is harder to improve city economy in these vehicles. However the same driving basics apply: no jack rabbit starts or hard acceleration, filters clean, PSI correct in tires, and occasional fuel injector cleaners added when needed. I am impressed at the hwd mileage I am receiving, but I drive off peak hours and seldom experience traffic congestion so my experience is probably not the norm.
