Hi All,

My girlfriends cousin also bought a RAV4 (4x4 Base in Silver).

She's not real tech savvy so I'm looking for some info for her.

She's got a pooch and is looking for recommendations on gates to put up that will prevent the dog from getting from the cargo area to the back seats and beyond.

Anyone got any recommendations for these kinds of gates for the 06 RAV4?

Please also include negative recommendations so she can avoid buying crappy products.

Thanks in advance!!

Ggirl's link to the other thread has some good info. You have two barrier choices: mesh/net or metal/heavy guage tubing of sorts. You also have several carrier (crates) choices: soft sided, Veri kennel (plastic), or wire crates.

Which one to go with will depend on how often she'll need to use it and the personality of her dog. If the dog is very active and likes to jump around, avoid the mesh. The dog will claw right through it. The metal/tubing barrier may or may not be a good choice either if the dog likes to paw at it or chew it.

The best thing for a very active and bouncy dog is a crate or carrier, assuming that the dog is crate trained. Crates are also the best as far as safety.

For our Aussie, we always crate him and use a collapsible, fabric crate in the cargo area. For the other two, they are very well behaved and usually just sleep in the backseat but they are buckled in with doggy seatbelts (for safety reasons).

She can find most of these things at large pet stores or on Amazon or other online stores. Weathertech actually sells a cargo barrier for pets but not sure if they manufacture them. There's other similar ones and should cost around $26-36 dollars. If she goes with this kind, make sure she finds one that's adjustible both width and height (most do).

Crates will be the most expensive but we got the collapsible from Costco for under $100.
