Just finished installing the mirror I ordered for $40. Install was easy. Pop off rearview mounting plate cap and push tab / slide to remove. Installed new mirror. Pulled the map light and sunroof buttons / panel. Pulled wires through headliner.

Found switched 12v and ground for the sunroof connector. Tapped the wires, tested it all and reassembled. Installed the little trim piece that came with new mirror and tightened down set screw.

12v switched was solid black (bottom left in pic below). Ground was black & white stripe wire (top right).

Some notes on my upcoming install of a Gentex, frameless mirror w/Homelink as I know some people are considering this modification and thought I would post the info I have gathered.

PLEASE NOTE: While the extension on this mirror should work and clear the housing, I have not personally verified the operation.

Car: 2016 Rav4 Hybrid XLE
Mirror: GENTEX Model 50-GENK80A
Mirror Extension: Gentex Model 50-BRKTEXT
Radar Detector Mount: Blend mount for Escort Passport and stem type mirrors. BlendMount Escort Beltronics | Valentine One| K40 | Cobra Radar Detector Mounts | GoPro DashCam

First of all, for those of you with the Lane Departure System, you will need to get a extension block to allow the stem to clear the camera housing (plastic).

Secondly, on this mirror specifically, it rides higher than the factory mirror. It looks odd but it is normal.

I plan on installing a blend mount mirror stem mount for my radar detector, I will post how/if that fits with the mirror extension and the LDS housing.

I plan on looking for power, switched power and ground in the overhead console as many have posted here.

I will post pictures once completed and note any difficulties.

I picked up a Gen 4 RAV4 OEM autodim mirror (basic, no compass, no Homelink) from a salvage place on the cheap. $26 with plug and black plastic extendable cover. My 2013 XLE came with the manual flip mirror.
Mirror looks brand new. The 2 wires were short on the plug but I extended them out by soldering extensions and heat shrinking the new joint. I picked up a few of the quick tap connectors from Wal-Mart and used the pics above from cpz32 to help determine which to hook up for ground and 12V with key power. The job was done in less than 30 minutes for less than $35.

It looks factory installed once I put everything back in place. :) I kinda wish that I had gotten a fancier mirror (with a hidden compass (hidden and homelink) but I don't really need them and cost would have been several times higher although they are available. The factory plug is a five pin which seems to be common for both current generation RAV4 and Camry. Other makes and models seem to use a different connector.

A hands free mirror and heated seats were two things that I missed when I switched back to a RAV4 from a Subaru Forester. Funny how you get used to some of the creature comforts that are optioned out differently between makes of cars. I don't know if I will want to tackle the heated seats but may try one of those cheap heated covers this winter.

I have a 2016 SE with the Tech Package, with the basic mirror, no autodim or homelink, i would like to add one. Has anyone validated that even with the tech package there isnt a plug to add the homelink mirror under the headliner? Also, how do you remove the black box on the windshield that goes around the mirror mount. (the box conceals the camera for the safety sense)

I have not looked under the headliner on the 2016 with AT package, but I pulled the camera box off. Remove the small piece in the middle it just snaps off. The large plastic camera box has two orange tabs on the Left and Right side. Disengage on both sides and the box slides down along the windshield glass. The camera wire goes up into the headliner.

Home Depot sells a package with different vampire connectors. The Gentex wires are thicker than the sunroof wires. i connected the ground black to a small screw i placed above the interior light assembly. The Toyota wires are thin and i decided to only use two connectors one for the constant volt and the flow when the engine is on. use a light probe to test them.

Don't know if I should post this here.

I have a Gentex Genk5A brand new that I purchased for my Toyota 4Runner about 5 years ago and never got installed. I totally forgot I had it until I saw this post. I still have the 4Runner but not interested on installing the mirror anymore. I believe its the original from Toyota and it should work with any Toyota vehicle. If someone is interested let me know. Make me a good offer and its yours.

Here is the link of the product.

I had a 50GENK40A installed in my 2013 RAV4 not long after I bought it and realized it didn't come with Homelink.

Now I'm wishing I had ponied up the extra $ for the Compass option.

I have found several used Gentex 453s on eBay.

Can I just swap one out for the other? Or will there be issues with the power etc? I had a stereo/accessories shop install the first one but I'd rather not have to pay to have the second one installed; a simple swap out would be preferable.

I'm guessing you won't have to do any rewiring, but I can't say for sure.

One thing to be aware of: you may have to purchase the Liftmaster Homelink Repeater kit (aka compatibility bridge) to get your opener to communicate with the Homelink mirror, if you have a newer Liftmaster/Chamberlain opener. They changed the signal type from analog to digital a couple years ago.

That is the same mirror that came standard with my 2012 Highlander SE and that I installed 'aftermarket' in my 2015 RAV4 XLE!

I thought it didn't have the compass when I first looked at it. I'll PM soon.

Ok, I'm looking for a Gentex with Homelink, auto-dimming and compass. Yours is missing the Homelink. I knew there was a reason it wouldn't work for me.
