I talked to the dealership this week, the auto dim/homelink/compass mirror only came on the tech pack car I guess. The mirror has a camera in it for Toyota Safety Sense, with a MSRP of something like $1024 haha. They found a Highlander mirror that would work, but since it is not a RAV4 part, the work wouldn't be warrantied, and whatever wiring they tapped into would be warranty void. I decided to forgo the mod for now, can't be messing with warranty on a 2 week old car haha.
I don't think you were being told the truth. Sound like they just didn't want to work for whatever reason. Also with you or anyone doing mods to your car, they (Toyota) must prove your mod created the need to do repairs. Them just saying it void the warranty, doesn't make it so.

The Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act is a federal law that requires manufacturers to honor warranties despite a vehicle’s aftermarket modifications. To successfully challenge a modification, the manufacturer must prove that the changes created the need for repairs.

Just finished installing the mirror I ordered for $40. Install was easy. Pop off rearview mounting plate cap and push tab / slide to remove. Installed new mirror. Pulled the map light and sunroof buttons / panel. Pulled wires through headliner.

Found switched 12v and ground for the sunroof connector. Tapped the wires, tested it all and reassembled. Installed the little trim piece that came with new mirror and tightened down set screw.

12v switched was solid black (bottom left in pic below). Ground was black & white stripe wire (top right).

Done this mod following your steps. I'm very happy with the outcome. Thank you for posting pics.

I have a late 2013, I added a auto dimming, compass and Homelink, no biggie right, when I removed the map light over head console, I was surprised that the harness was tucked away behind the roof console but it was a 10 pin connector I bought a mirror that has a 12 pin connector. I disassembled the one from factory, was lucky that it used the same terminals, looks awesome, found a diagram for the 12 pin mirror and locked them in the correct slots. Looks awesome since it has backlit buttons that match the rest of lights

My RAV came with just a plain mirror, no auto dimming or anything. Even though I think the brochure said for 2016 that the SE had a compass mirror, it does not. Is there a way to add the upgraded mirror without changing wiring? Is the car pre-wired for the mirror? I don't want to hack up wiring in a brand new car haha. Is this something the dealer could install?

Looking for automatic dimming rear view mirrors to reduce the glare from trailing vehicles? Try the frameless DPS electrochromic automatic dimming mirror. It comes with onstar and homelink. Auto Dimming Mirrors – DPS Automotive Group.
Thanks,
Dave

I used one from a Tacoma, I don't remember looking for the model number for that mirror, I bought it used from eBay, in the search bar type "2016-2019 Toyota Tacoma Homelink" (I think the Tundras use the same) very important that you ask for the harness though, some RAV-4 did not come with the harness tucked away like mine did. If your RAV-4 has the harness tucked away then you still need the harness because you will need the 12-pin connector from new mirror, then you have to de-pin the 10-pin connector from your RAV-4 and replace it with the 12-pin connector. I'll take a look at the mirror later today to see if I can spot the model number of the Mirror

Suggestion: If your garage door opener is a late model that has 2-way communication and it has MyQ or AssureLink then I suggest upgrading to the Homelink V5. I just purchased one the other day from Amazon (it's on SALE), it has the harness included. This mirror has compass and backlight buttons just like the one I purchased from eBay a couple of years ago, the other plus is that these mirrors are brand new. I already tried it on when it arrived and surprisingly it uses the same connector as my current Tacoma one, it will be a plug-n-play deal for me. I still need to install the mirror in my RAV-4 permanently but first I have to install my new Chamberlain 8500W wall mount garage opener that I purchased 4 months ago.

Here's the link to the one I purchased from Amazon

Today I installed a homelink and auto dimming framless mirror which is for Mazda CX-9. It fits perfectly and does not need the mirror extension mount. (So now I have a useless extension mount) Bought on ebay and the price is $150+tax. There is another one with homelink, auto dimming, and compass on Amazon(the price was $258, now is $300). But I don't need compass, so this CX-9 one is good to me.

I am going to install the Gentex 453 mirror with Homelink and was wondering if it is possible to connect both Homelink and Auto-dimming power wire to the same switched power cable from the moon roof to avoid tapping into 2 wires. Can someone please confirm whether this is possible? Or should I connect my Homelink power wire to switched power from the map light.

You can tap on the same sunroof wire. Not much amp draw on either one... the only down side is that the Homelink will only operate when the key switch is in the ACC position. If you don't mind that then there's no issues going the route you want to take

Awesome, thanks for this useful info. I prefer the Homelink to only work when the car is switched on :)
