Head Unit w/Screen that Extends 1.5" Beyond Face Plate?

My newly-minted Marine nephew is stationed in Twenty Nine Palms with no car. My sister-in-law is donating her well-used '98 RAV4 to him. I want to contribute by installing a head unit that will make navigating with his iPhone safer, since he's only been driving for a year, and doesn't drive that much, either.

Given my experience with CarPlay, I'd love to make this possible for not too much money. His RAV has a single-DIN opening, and there are single-DIN CarPlay units with flip-up/flip-out screens for <<$150, but I'm wondering about the "dash overhang"

Does anyone have experience with a flip-out screen that will clear that ~1.5" gap?

edit: doesn’t need to be a flip-out. Can be a screen with ball-joint or whatever.

Or does anyone make an adapter bracket that will bring the DIN slot flush-ish with the rest of the dash?

Thanks!

last i knew no on the BIG spacer for single din.
you need the mounting of the oem brackets.
but you could make a new set of side brackets if you had a tin shop!

check the screen flip out first then measure the hole offset.
power up and disconnect the power plug to leave the screen out.
be careful not to trash the unit!

a heads up display would be better...
or an extension screen.
i use this mount for the phone in the rav

perfect fit over the speedo!
and then you can place one of these in the slots to the left

and then use a short charger cord.

the i phone , phone nav app works better than the head units....
and then us a basic media radio like this one

that way you get hands free for the phone as well as voice commands.

This search on crutchfield.com shows several options for what you’re looking for. Single DIN chassis with a screen on a ball joint.

I never did find a solution with a screen that I knew would fit, so as a stop-gap I bought him this $34 head unit:

The electrical installation took 5 minutes. Mechanically we're still not there. With the Boss sleeve thingy it will insert into the DIN opening of the OEM brackets, but there's no way to secure it:

And the cover won't fit over it. But friction-fit seems to work for the time being. The head unit has USB-charging, and I had a magnetic mount lying around, so PFC Nephew now has wheels, nav, and tunes!

He'll continue to look for some better mechanical solution.

the kenwood screw mounts to the oem radio side brackets.
not sure on the radio you found
snap some pix of the side of the radio with the din sleeve removed.
that will get you the iso mounts on the side of the radio if it has them.
There is a hidden double din in the area where your cig lighter is.
Just installed a double din android stereo and its a perfect fit.

Does this radio's face plate not come off? My one just pops off and you place the trim over it, then the face plate after.
The double din just gives you more options for installing and choosing a radio.

Can you include a photo? Be nice to see how it looks. I'm thinking about having it done.
Here is what I installed and if your color inside the cab is gray it will match very well. The sides look a little different because the tabs but I just coved them. This also is plug in play with your Rav4 depending on the year.
