Hi,
Hoping someone here can help me with a few questions on my son's 1996 rav4.
The heater is only putting out warm air. The engine temp gauge when warmed up is just below half way, which I assume is about normal. We tried flushing the heater core and it did seem to help some, but it's still not hot.

I downloaded some tech info from Toyota's site about replacing the heater core and attempted it the other day. Had a mechanic drain the air conditioning system. The Toyota info doesn't say anything about the dash or instrument panel needing to be removed, just the glove box. So I did this, then removed the air Conditioning unit. Then I could see the heater flap and made sure it was working. I couldn't figure out how to remove the heater unit without removing more of the dash.

Has anyone here removed the heater unit? Also the replacement heater core I bought from amazon doesn't have the pipes coming out of it, from what I can see of the core in the Rav it looks like the pipes are soldered to the core.

Thanks for any help or suggestions.

Bob,

On my 1996 Rav4 there isn't a valve controlling the coolant, it flows through the heating core all the time. The flap which is controlled by the cold-hot dash lever controls how much air going past the heater core. Maybe there is a difference in US and UK models. Thanks
