For a RAV4 Hybrid, I know running on the electric motor is good for about 20 miles if you don’t accelerate hard. So what happens when I am driving with the gas engine and stop at a red light. With stop/start the gas engine shuts off, when the light turns green does the car first use the electric motor then the gas when you reach 20mph? And secondly once you are driving with the gas engine, does the electric motor run at all? I can’t figure out how you get over 40mpg with just using the gas engine. Hope you understand this. Thanks.

Everything FKHeath said but you will not get 20 miles on the battery and electric motors. I can get 2 -3 miles on battery at best, flat or slight downhill grade required. If you are looking for extended ev mileage you will need the Prime.
