How to hardwire dashcam to 2011 RAV4

2782 Views 9 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Blogson
Recently I bought a dashcam as well as the parking mode/hardwiring kit wire to hardwire it to my fuse box, but unfortunately I haven't been able to find information online about how to do this on the 2011 RAV4 (base model v6), only for the newer 2019-2021 models. I would appreciate if anyone has a video or a diagram that would be helpful?
Thanks

For parking mode you would need to wire the power wire (usb cable) to a circuit that is on all the time when the car engine is off such as the battery. Dashcam usually run off 5v which means you need to use a converter (12v to 5v hardwire kit) which you say have. You connect your dashcam to the converter and then that wire connects to a 12v soruce such as the battery positive terminal. Then the other wire to a ground. For parking mode you need to program the dashcam to trigger the recording when parked otherwise it will drain the battery since it will keep recording all the time when the car is on or off.

Thank you for the reply and for the information. Would this circuit be located in the fuse-box in the driver's-side area above the OBD port or one of the other fuseboxes? Also I'm not too sure what is this converter or if it came with the hardwiring kit. The hardwiring kit I ordered (which I bought separately, didn't come with the dashcam) is like one long cable which consists of the mini-USB to plug into the dashcam, a little switch thing that can be switched to different voltages, and which becomes three little red, yellow, black wires (labelled as Battery+, ACC, and GND respectively), I'm not sure if the converter is included in here or if I need to buy one? If buying one is needed, is this the type of thing that can be found at the local AutoZone or auto parts store? . Also this is a single dashcam (front-facing only) it's a Viofo A119v3.

Edit: this is the hardwire kit I have purchased and this is my dashcam
Viofo makes a hardwire kit like this one to enable parking mode. Connect the ACC wire to a fuse with an add a fuse circuit (low profile fuse) inside the fuse box near the steering wheel, the Battery wire to the positive on the battery and GRN wire to the frame of the car. The power wire to the battery need to be feed through the firewire. In the engine compartment just below the the strut tower there is a rubber with a wire (on passenger side). You can feed a wire through that rubber grommet to the inside of the car. It will go just below the cabin filter.

I have a Viofo A129 Duo.;)

im looking to finally hardwire my dashcam and looking to use fuse taps to tap into the fusebox

anyone got any photos of which fuse to connect the ACC and constant to?
It does not look like any fuse is suitable inside the car for constant power. At least for NA models this is the case but not sure with your model. I would get constant power direct from the battery. For ACC power almost any fuse will work but I would choose the fuse for the outlets.

The OBDII connector (under the dash) has constant power.
If you have any short it is safer to connect to a non-critical circuit.
