Today when I open the hood to let my bud have a look what's under the hood, he asked me is that there should be a strut bar pre installed?

Because this car is used car so I don't really know.

Any 98 RAV4 owners knows?

Thanks

No it doesn't have to be installed. In some countries it was an option.
yes, didn't it come standard in certain option packages ? to bad they didn't make it optional in every RAV though, as in having the bolt holes there... you would think that would be a good way for Toyota to make extra money off accessories... especially in SUV's for better handling and stability... 8)

It was only the 98-00 RAV4's that came with 235/60 Tires and Alloy Wheels package that have strut bar brace.

1997 have it too with this package.

It seem it's not the only difference.
I have odered rear shocks for mine and dealer asked me if the truck is equipped with 235/60R16.

In 1997, in Canada, this package was named group B and included:
235/60R16 tires
5 Alloy Wheels
ABS
Rear LSD
Fender flares
Strut bar (not in description of the package)

This package costed, in 1997, approximativly 2500$ CND

Mine is a 98 but only comes with standard 215 tires

I think I have to get one for my car from the junk yard as well as the rear LSD and fender flares.

Looks like the strut brace came as a 3-point item in which most of the Australian RAV4's didn't have this feature. The 4.2 models all have the strut brace as stock, but there's a compliance plate in the way of our Aussie 4.1's.

Hi,
My UK 98 version Rav4 Freesport(special edition had the 235 tyres and has part of the pack the bright red engine strut, looks good and really makes a difference to the handling.

My 97 in Canada has that package too Joel.
I dont know if he is pulling my leg, but a friend who also has a 97 RAV in eastern Canada told me my bar was very different than his. Mine is red. He said his was yellow with a black RAV4 logo.

Mine is red too. It goes to firewall from each shock tower.

I really don't know.

The best to do is calling your Toyota dealer.
