So I was on YouTube looking at our versatile model in action (inspiration for my incoming OME kit) and saw this video and noticed a neat setup:

Wheel Tire Car Land vehicle Plant

A jerry can mount where the spare tire mount would go! I want to emulate the setup, but I think the owner is Russian and doesn't understand me, he just "liked" my question in the comments, lol.

I wanted to run it by all the overlanders, off-roaders, and the forum oldheads, I know a lot of knowledge has been lost over the years. Is there a bolt-on product out there?

To the best of my research, I can't find anything made specifically for our car. Unless someone knows better, I'm thinking of getting something universal like a Smittybuilt 2798 and try snugging it up to the mounting holes on the car. Might have to fabricate a backplate to mount to the car, and bolt the carrier to that.
So, who's got some ideas for me?

How inclined are you to fabricate for this? Steel bar is easy enough to work into a shape to both hold the can and line up with the spare tire mounts, and plenty of places do powdercoating for a decent price. That way you could choose your can and build specifically for it. If you're not wanting that big of a project I'm sure it'd be easy to make a frame that would allow that universal basket to bolt in nicely.

So this is not for true offroading purposes, doing this mainly to fill the ugly empty space. I have the back seats and plastic lower rear quarter-panels out, I'm putting hooks and straps on the trunk floor to secure my spare there. The jerry/NATO can will be for water to rinse my diving gear off.

Oh that's a good idea. That'd be cool to get a can with a spout. Like this

Helmet Input device Gadget Bag Peripheral

Fill it up from the top, use from the bottom, no fussing around with 5.3 gallons (44 pounds) of water in a can from a metal strap bracket to rinse your gear.

Check your state to make sure running a fuel can is legal first. If it is, dont remove your spare to put a mount there anyway. It's a 50 states requirement that you are equipped with a good functioning tire and wheel in the case of emergency.

There is a way you can mount a Jerry can holder with the limited space in the back though, perpendicular to the spare just like this in the link. https://www.victory4x4.com/mm5/graphics/00000001/UNI-DJC_4.jpg . There's enough room on either side for a water can or fuel receptacle. However it's easier and less permanent to mount them on a roof rack, so aside from cool factor I personally wouldn't have a reason to put it on the back.

It's legal here, and it's not for fuel. I keep the spare in my trunk for now, but since lifting it, I think I'm putting it back on the mount. Need more weight way back there, it's stiff lol. Will probably get an over-the-tire holster for a can.
