I just found the other day that I had this option and was excited to try it out. WOW, I didn't try it for long!!!
I believe it is Toyota sense 2.0 that I have. Here are the things I've discovered in my 150 miles of using it. Also, I always kept my hands on the steering wheel so I would get the warning to put my hands on the wheel and have the LCA turn off due to that. The interstate I was driving on has very nice painted strips/lines with no wear on them at all so no excuses there.
1). While using LCA for the first time the vehicle would sway back and forth (right to left) in the lane. Even though I never crossed either of the lines, I was never really "centered" at all. I felt that if there was a cop behind me, he/she could pull me over for drunk driving.
2). I'm not sure if this system monitors vehicles that are passing me or I am passing, but a couple of times I took over the steering because I felt I was going to get side swiped by the vehicle beside me.
3). Randomly the LCA would just turn off. I would be going in a nice long straight stretch, nicely painted lines on both sides and for some reason it just turned off and would come on again shortly after that. Not a big deal, but I'm pretty sure it is not supposed to do that.
4. Here is what broke the camels back, so to speak!! Multiple times the LCA would drastically take exit ramps. The first time it happened I wasn't ready for it and I ended up taking the ramp because I was too dangerous to try to get back on the interstate. Now having this happen once, I was aware of this and ready for it to happen again, which it did at almost every exit ramp. Talk about creating stress and being extremely dangerous!! I can't believe that could allow this to be an option.
I would love to hear if anyone else experienced this and does Toyota have a fix? Is Toyota sense 2.5, 2.5+ or 3.0 have this figured out? Can our cars get a software upgrade if these issues are fixed?
I can only see lawsuits coming out of this if they can't find a solution to this. I can't imaging what would have happened to me if these things happened of slippery roads.
