Thought I would just list out what it says in the "Owners Manual Supplement" 2001, about maintenance items people frequently ask about on here.

Timing Belt (Its a chain for '01 onward) needs to be replaced every 72 months or 152,000 kms (95,000 miles).

4x4 Rear Differential Fluid: Every 48 months or 64,000kms (50,000 miles)

Iridium spark plugs (that are in the RAV by the way) Every 192,000kms (120,000 miles)

Automatic Transmission Fluid: Every 72 months 96,000kms (60,000 miles)

Manual transmission Fluid: 48 months 64,000kms (50,000 miles)

Inspect Valve Clearance (audible inspection): Every 72 months or 96,000kms (60,000 miles)

Air Filter: Every 36 months or 48,000kms (30,000 miles) [Sooner if required]

Oil Changes: Every 8000 kms (5000 miles)

This is what the book says but for some things most of us change them more often like the Oil and the Air Filter.

I hope this gives everyone a better idea of what maintenance they should do soon.

Thanks for the post. Great idea, but forgive the strange question.

Don't we ALL do an "audible inspection" of the valve clearance every time we get in any car? Rattle, rattle, rattle... Hmmm. Sounds like a valve is knocking.

Sounds incredibly vague for what I'm sure Toyota techs would charge you $80 for...

Ask some people on here and they will tell you that if you have a valve problem that is audible you will deffinetly know. Much louder than the sub-zero cold start sound you here.

I guess the best way is to take it apart and check them but how many of us can afford that?

This item is in the book to get you to go back the the dealer and have it checked (job security for them).
