I've been hearing a metal rattling sound from the front end on my V6 RAV4 whenever I go over a road with a bumpy section or on a dirt road. I never hear anything on a smooth road or when I just go over a single speed bump.

It wasn't a loose heat shield, and the mechanic at the dealership couldn't see anything that might be causing this.

Any ideas what else to look for?

Brake pad squeal plates, or shim plates. Ive seen a number of them back off the pad and rattle around in the caliper. Taking the pad off and adding anti-seize to the back of the bad usually takes care of the problem. Of course it could be other things like sway bar end links, etc... but I doubt it. How many miles?
