Our family has passed a 2001 RAV4 around since it had about 30,000 miles. I have it now and it has 299,300 miles. We have never done any major repairs. The one repair exception was to have the Engine Control Module reprogrammed to remove a corrupted file which was causing erratic transmission shifting. I was about ready to buy an $1100 used transmission when I ran across the web site for the reprogramming which cost $200 and took all of six days to send and get back.
Sadly, now it sits idle until I can figure out what sort of problem I have with coolant temperature or the sensors. Additionally, I think there is a pending problem in the drive train near the differential or axle bearings, (a whine that no one else can hear). Probably need mufflers too but it is not too noisy so far. I just wish it was a manual trans.
I'm sure someone out there has more miles than my rig. I'd be curious to hear. Maybe we could band together and get Toyota to do and advertisement.
