Mud & Sand Mode Automatically Engaged

I have a 2019 XLE Premium with 74K miles. This morning on my way to work mud & sand mode engaged itself. I searched and only found one mention and no one else commented on that post. Should I be worried? Should I run to the dealer ASAP? Should I ignore? Un-mechanical girl brain but my first reaction is fear/panic when a vehicle computer makes its own decisions.

Thanks!

I have a 2019 all-wheel-drive limited and for the last three months it has been slipping into mud and sand mode. My dealership says they haven’t heard of anybody else experiencing this problem. Has anyone found a solution yet?

Hi I do have the same problem.
here the solution.
first press the eco mode , the mud mode will disappear.
second : turn off the traction control.
this is the button on the left side of driver seat heater. Make sure on the screen will show the traction controlis off
Third: turn off your car and turned it on after few second the mud and sand should not be lit. Good luck.

Having this same issue 2019 Adventure. Did you figure it out? My warranty is up in June so I’d like to resolve it before then. Thanks in advance for help.

I filed an official complaint to the NHSTA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration)

If your warranty is up in June and you haven't had the dealership look into it yet, I would do that right away so it's on their books. This way you can have leverage if they either can't duplicate the issue or it returns after the warranty expires.
I have a 2019 Rav4 XLE with the same issue. The mud and sand mode engages when I put it in park and also periodically while I drive. Anyone know how to resolve this issue?

Same issue on my 2020,
I have a 2019 Rav4 XLE with the same issue. T
2019s and 2020s (and even 2021s) are notorious for roof rail water leaks due to the very poor sealing washers on the plastic clips that hold on the roof rails and go through holes in the metal roof. Several posters had the side airbags and wiring harnesses and connectors damaged by water leaks. It is possible for water to run down the A pillar and make its way into the dash and eventually the center console. If the wiring is corroded or shorted it could be causing the issue of the RAV slipping randomly into Mud&Sand mode. Use 5th gen forum's search function for "roof rail leaks."

I don’t want to be the bearer of bad news, but this occasionally happens on mine and appears to be related to the roof leak issues. I would check the upper A-pillars (columns between the windshield and the door windows) for any stains. If so, my suggestion is to garage the vehicle for a day and put a big fan under the driver’s foot well. This should dry out any moisture and you can check again if the problem occurs.
