My neighbor recently bought a 1997 5 speed RAV4.1. This morning he came to my home. (I knew it ) He doesn't speak English and asked me some question.

Being a good neighbor as I am I check it out. It was stuck in second gear, or at least that was the last gear engaged. It won't engage another gear. I step on the clutch and the RAV4 starts up fine, problem is engaging the shifter. The shifter moves but it doesn't feel right, like spongy. Is changing this bushing a simple project? Has anyone done this before? Where is it located?

see if the cables are bound in the bay.
Check to see if the arms can be moved by hand when the car is off.

I think there is a problem with the Gear Shift Lever Cable.

Yesterday afternoon I checked my neighbors RAV4 again and its locked in second gear. He told that he was messing with the OBC.
