Purchased a beautiful 2 door 5 speed AWD RAV4 sometime back.

Recently decided to replace the headgasket due to water consumption.

Pulled the head and found it to be warped so began looking for another one. Turns out I have a CA emissions head?

This is baffling to me because all the markings on the car indicate it's a regular federal emissions compliant car.

The only reason I have to believe it's a CA compliant motor at this moment is this steel nipple on the cylinder head between the #2 and #3 fuel injector ports. The cylinder head company brought this to my attention.

Thank you in advance for any responses and have a wonderful RAV4 day!

Thanks much for the response

It should be noted that the cylinder head offered by Cylinder Heads International in your link is decribed as Federal Emissions only and does not have the metal tube between injector port #2 and #3

it's defintely a CA motor

I did some more research and my exhaust manifold matches the toyota diagram for a California compliant RAV4.

I've worked on Toyotas for decades and my instinct and observation tell me this is the factory motor.

SO STRANGE!
