I have a 2003 RAV4. I am trying to open the rear diff fill plug as seen in the photo below. The problem is, I am blocked from getting a tool in there by the rear passenger drive axle. I do not see anything in the service manuals about removing this to access the plug. What am I doing wrong?

Just try moving the rav or the wheel back a bit until the driveshaft bolt is not in front of the fill plug

NO! That is not necessary. As Gunner said, move the rear wheel until it clears the drain plug. Then use an Allen wrench to open the box and fill it. It is handy to have a cheap pump to get the transaxle fluid into the box....
