My 08 base Rav4 needs new rims. They are literally rusting through. My tire size is 225/65R17. Now Im not sure if it is the 6.5 or the 7 inch. How do I find out?

Thank You

It should say on the back of the rim, but given the choice of 6.5" vs 7", I would go with wider, even 7.5" if I could. 6.5" or 7" rolls the sidewall way too much under cornering on a 225/65R17 tire. Check locally on Facebook or Craigslist for 17" Lexus or Toyota alloy rims there should be lots of good deals for alloy rims that are far superior to the steelies.

If you are going to get new alloys that are a universal fit then you probably need hub ring adapters and spline nuts. Hub rings come in aluminum and plastic. I like the aluminum since they are durable. Most alloy wheel require spline nuts for narrow lug nut opening. You will not be able to use your factory lug nuts. You can also can get metal valve stems instead of rubber ones.

If you get a used Toyota alloy wheel you do not need hub ring adapters but will require those Toyota lug nuts with washers.

I’m basically looking for the cheapest solution. I’m in NY and the roads are heavily salted, hence the rust. The car will be 15 years old and although it’s running good and is still in good condition. I don’t want to over spend on it.
I’m going to check out the local junk yards, there are a lot of them around here.

thank you for your clarification and suggestions.

If you are looking at the used wheel market then I suggest you go to this site to get your wheel specs. Then print out all the other models that matches your wheel. This way you are not limited to just looking for a RAV4 alloy wheel. Good lucky on your search.

Yes it will fit as long as the center bore is the correct size.

My 09 RAV4 with Mazda CX5 wheels with the same sized tires from the stock steel pressed rims like yours (225/65R17).

Aesthetically they match well. All you'd need is some hub centric rings, I ran plastic 3d printed ones (from thingiverse) for 6 months no issue due to the load being applied via friction of the bolts horzontally. But I ordered in some alloy ones later on from aliexpress. The size you'd need is going from 67.1 to 60.1 (67.1-60.1). Stock nuts were fine.
