Hey Guys,

My wife's 2010 Rav4 Sport's radio has jumped the shark, dealership wants $1425, and I say no chance.

I have looked online and seen some OEM GPS Units that look plug and play. Is that possible? I imagine that I would need to install an antenna for GPS, but with an iPhone I don't think she needs that. It looks like there is a USB plug in, and that would be great.

I could just stick with the same OEM unit, but that seems to be inviting the same issue with the display going bad.

Is there an aftermarket that is easy to install? I am not a fan of tampering with wiring harnesses if it can be avoided.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you get a simple radio with blue tooth you just need a wiring harness. The install is plug and play almost but you still must connect the wire harness wires to the radio by either soldering it or using butt connectors. The aftermarket wire harness goes between the aftermarket radio and the factory wiring so you don't have to cut any factory wires. You will also need a face plate cover if the radio is a universal fit.

If you want one of those with GPS that looks OEM then look at AliExpress. They look very factory but quality and reliability is questionable unless you go name brand which is much more. Also like many radios with GPS getting map updates maybe be very difficult or expensive.

There are youtube video showing you how to install a radio on the RAV4. It is actually not that hard but everyone has thier skill level.

There are two are big electronics sellers I can think of that have great pricing with free shipping along with reviews. They are Crutchfield and Sonic Electronix.

Depending upon how much money one wants to spend, going to a reputable car radio, etc. shop and discussing the options could be useful. Dealership price of $1425 is high - maybe the dealer is financing their coming vacation . . .

Head over to www.crutchfield.com and shop around. The RAV's head unit was the simplest to diy replace that I've ever encountered. Crutchfield's instructions are top notch for a first timer as well.
I have to second that. I'd never done a radio install ever, but the Crutchfield videos and a couple of calls to their tech service got me up and running.
