23 XLE Hybrid with 800 miles, stock everything except a front runner roof rack and I get ~40mpg city/37mpg highway and I pay attention to how I drive, assume it would drop 1mpg if I drove more aggressive.

 

To help with getting more gas in the tank, view the slope of the gas station as you pull in. Pull up to the pump side which is sloping down and away from the pump slightly. This will allow more air to escape gas tank when it gets near full.

 

In California and some other (CARB?) states, all gas pumps are required to have a surround of the car gas inlet so that any fumes that come out of the car while filling, are sucked up and not allowed to enter the atmosphere.

 

I went through all of the menus twice and didn't see any accumulated MPG data. All I reset was my trip A, nothing else. Is it buried in there somewhere or does it clear out on it's own?

 

It seems all the meters on my RAV4 PRIME 2023 reset at startup for each segment of trip. I have not found any information on setting it up otherwise. I would prefer to have a choice to reset meters at "fill up" rather than every time I shut the car down

IIRC, pushing the stem or twisting it gives you an option of reseting the first and there may be two possible settings via that switch. Your manual should tell you.

My Menu, Info, Eco displays recent mileage efforts in 15 minute bar graph segments.

Not sure how your car and its options work. Mine a '19 loaded.

 

a lot of factors , outside ambient temp, driving style all come into play. Toyota Hybrids don't usually show true gains until around 10k miles or so (unofficial break in period). If you drive it in a non-hybrid way, don't expect to get hybrid MPGs

 

Does it generally take 10k miles for most hybrids to reach their maximum potential mpg?

 

It may take 10K miles for some new hybrid owners to catch on to the driving habits required to achieve the higher possible MPGs from a hybrid. I know I had to adjust my driving habits.

My mileage has improved over two years of ownership. Possibly it's a "break in" period or as you mentioned, learning how to drive it to maximize its efficiency. For me, things like keeping the climate control off for short trips or running in EV mode when noodling around a parking garage or stuck in traffic.

I don't worry about the range and tank size issues too much as it seems already overkill. If I run on the low fuel light down to say, DTE=20 miles and then fill to the second "click off" I can usually get about 12.5 gallons in. At 40 mpg that's 500 miles; lately I've been averaging above that. Since I don't drive all that much anyway I don't want issues with stale gas etc.

 

Since new I drove my 2023 RAV4 conservatively hardly over 75 MPH and got 43 MPG. I am retired and do not do the daily commute mostly long hwy speed trips. The last roadtrip to Montana and back I did 85 often and averaged 40 MPG.
