I just bought my 2004 Rav a couple weeks ago and already a couple things have came up. The TPMS light was on. I adjusted the tires, except for the spare which I can't get to because I can't get the cover off. Reset the TPMS and the next day it was on again. Now today on the way to work the TPMS light began to flash and the VSC Trac, Trac off, and ABS lights are all on. What is going on with this thing? This car only has 47000 miles on it with an extensive record of the maintenance being kept up on the Car Fax report. So as I mentioned, I can't get the spare tire cover off. It is half hard shell and half soft with the elastic around the tire. Is there a tool that I can use to reach in and get under this thing or something? It is on there tight and I can't get my fingers under it. Not the best design I imagine. Help out a new Rav owner please.

If the spare wheel is like my 2006 then all you have to do is open the tail gate door and then you have access to the spare wheel catch, its designed to be an anti theft device

Honus63 that tire cover should come off easily since it has elastic around with a zipper on the top. The only thing that I can think of that makes the cover difficult to remove is if there is different tire that is much bigger than the stock one. If it is really hard to remove you may try to spray the tire inside with soapy water. Also make sure the position of the zipper is correct. The zipper handle should be on the top facing up to the far right. Once you unzip it all the way out just grab both sides and wiggle it out. If the zipper is on the side or bottom obviously it will not come out

The TPMS in your car does NOT measure the tire pressure, it uses the wheel speed counters. Check to see that all the tires are the same brand, type and size.

The 2004 did not come with TPMS. Is it an add-on?
my 2004 has tpms light too, usually lights up on the highway after about 50miles of highway driving

@op how did you resolve the issue

You need to follow the owner's manual instructions if one is available. It's quite specific and needs to be performed periodically based on weather conditions (i.e low tire pressure. snow/debris buildup on the inside of the tires, etc.). As far as the cover is concerned when they get old you need to be careful because they get brittle and will tear. I've always started from the bottom and wiggle the cover with both hands while pulling it towards you. It can be a struggle!!!!!
