The change is basically due to the Toyota Hybrid system and long term reliability. Subaru the brand is okay but they are lacking innovation.
When I first started with Subaru it was one of the very few automakers that offered 4 wheel drive in a car designed for the average driver. After 27 years, I finally learned every automaker produces several styles of cars with 4 wheel drive. I know there are technical differences in the 4 wheel drive systems but all basically accomplish the same thing now and days.
Finally, the Toyota is a much more refined ride than the Subaru has ever been. And as stated earlier, the long-term Toyota reliability is much more likely than a Subaru.
