Hi,

I have a 98 with P0171 code (ECU thinks the engine is running lean) and the car is running richer (dumb ECU is dumping too much fuel).

I cleaned the O2 sensor using a torch but that killed it
I pulled two O2 sensors from two 2000 Ravs in a junk yard. The wires match but the connector keys were different so I trimmed to fit.

I still get the P0171 code and the car lurches. Fuel is not being delivered right. When I remove disconnect the O2 I get a P0125 code but the Rav runs like a champ but a bit rich.

Any ideas? Are 02 sensors that different from 98 to 2000?

an O2 sensor will not cause a lean code by itself. You will also have an O2 code.

Buy a DENSO sensor, install it, and then go after a vacuum leak, MAF sensor issue or low fuel pressure (highly unlikely since Toyota pumps are pretty sturdy)

My mistake. I forgot I had Calif Emissions Rav with Wideband O2... The 2000 parts Ravs had narrow band O2.
