Contrary to critics' claims, the RAV4 is a bona fide off-roader. Of course, I wouldn't try driving through a two-foot deep puddle of water with it (unmodified), but still, the RAV4 is definitely a capable compact SUV.

I drove along a pretty scary, steep dirt road (in the rain!) during the Easter long weekend last month on Saltspring Island to the top of Mount Maxwell. No, it wasn't "extreme" off-roading, as shown in the videos, but hey, it handled the dirt road pretty well!

How dare you disagree! :p

The RAV4 has everything a real offroader has:
solid axels
high degree of articulation
locking differentials all around
rigid frame
low range converter
large truck tires with sturdy sidewalls
ground clearance
skid plates
high approach/departure angles
side exit exhaust
