I've looked through threads on this, but didn't see anything that seems to apply. I bought my 07 Limited 4WD a couple of months ago, decided to take it in and get an oil change today. So I took it to Wally World, yeah I know, but they have done good work in the past, After a bit, the "mechanic" comes in and tells me that they can't get the plastic filter cover off and that it looks like the last person who changed the oil put it back on with a pair of Channel Locks, and recommends taking it to the nearest dealer an hour away. I have no problem with that, but after doing some looking online, it seems that the cover is metal. So my questions are this, was he blowing smoke up my backside by claiming that it's plastic? And how much of a headache would I be inviting by trying to do it myself? I'm a fair shade tree mechanic.

Thanks for the tip. So now I'm only left with the question is why I was told it was plastic. Sounds like I'm finding a new place to get my oil changed.
