I bought a cheap $10 wrench on Amazon and promptly destroyed the OEM plastic housing when trying to unscrew it.

Replaced the wrench with the MOVICK that has the notches AND replaced the housing with the upgraded metal housing from the dealer.

Still a PIA to change, but it gets it done. The key is when reinstalling the housing to put lots of oil on the housing threads and the o-rings AND then barely tighten it. If using a ratchet, snug up the housing with your hand on the ratchet practically over the center of the filter so you intentionally have very little leverage.

This was on a 2018.

Which one you got from eBay, part# please!

It seems they no longer sell the one I have - that’s was the one with the flutes.

It looks like this is the only one for the 4th gen RAV4:

will a 14 flute, 64mm filter tool fit on the 2.0 liter 3ZR-FAE motor? My filter lies horizontal, not vertical.

You’re best bet would be to check the Oil Filter Wrenches website for your exact year, model and engine just to be sure you get the correct wrench.
