This has every potential of voiding the warranty should the engine have a failure due to oil depravation. This is not something I want to risk.
sorry late to the party.
the oil filter bypass bypasses the filter media at the set low pressure and flow rate.
so when the cold oil is thicker or at super high flow it will not filter all the oil presented at the filter it will bypass the filter media for unfiltered flow.
and same if the filter media is full of trash.
it can partial filter and bypass the extra flow around the filter media.

that is why i always say pull the stick and check the oil color.
if the oil looks dark on a gasoline engine at the least change the filter.
and if it has age or mile on the oil and is dark change the oil and filter.

it all depends on the engine on clean burn..
and the seals etc.

the bad part is suspended dark trash in the oil is abrasive and is hard on bearings as well as oil pumps.

Our 21 Rav-4 is almost @ 35,000, I am going to use the Napa Gold.
100332.... from all I have read, it is an above average filter.
I sent my oil in for Analysis after the oil change from the dealer for a leaking oil pan. I have changed it once since then @ 5,000 miles.
It was a good analysis, Dealer did not change the filter because it was not 10,000 miles.
So I changed it myself.
My offer for the bypass is that if the pressure is high from getting on the interstate or cold oil, if it didn't bypass it would rip the filter media. Also slow oil flow through the media.
Again I just am shocked at the tiny azzed filter on a great engine.
Not here to start a fight, am here for us as fellowship for the love of our Rav-4's. 😃 I am using Mobil-1 0W16...
Must be the dumbest dealer in USA. I would report such to Toyota in Plano TX. Dealer service folks just cannot be trusted these days.

It's not so much a question of why it bypasses, but rather is there an issue going from a 8-11 "oem" to a 11-14 bypass? If it were for cold-thick oil and bypass is to protect the filter, then wouldn't that be an issue quite often, cold dirty oil just going past the filter? What if the dynamic pump can't do any more than 11psi?

The wix at Oreilly's is around 16.00 🥶 o_O o_O
Napa Gold is around 12.00 n I can get them 30% 0ff on super Saterday plus I have a 5.00 credit.
per filter? youch.

I think online you can get the master pack (12) for like $52.
Fleet has MP's, with about $24 in shipping, so 76/12 = 6.3 per filter. You can find MP's for less too.
A 12pk is good for 6yrs.

Fleet (Fleet Supply)
MP is wix Master Pack, basically how they package a box of filters.

Why is NAPA Gold so darn pricey, they are made by WIX as private label, same filters.

Unsure:
Wix at Oreilly's is 16.00 o_O I guess cause they can, only thing i can figure out. The OEM is cheap enough but im not really sure its that good of a filter.
Amazon carry's quite a few of the Napa Gold but not ours. Im really just trying to stay away from China Crap or Fake or counterfeit, or china in a Real Box....
On a Super Saturday i can get a Napa Gold with my 5.00 bonus and 30% off for around 3.50 a filter.

$16 for one filter? That's crazy. 5-7 should be about the price you should pay.

Affinia was bought by german mann-hummel in 2015.

WIX/NAPA is made in factories all around the world. WIX has decent quality control, so where it's made I am not so worried about. I would use FILTRON if it was readily available in US.

Yes, supply chains can become corrupted with grayware product, it can happen to Oreilly's, Autozone, Walmart, RockAuto, etc. But as of now there's no stories circulating of such grayware stuff. I think WIX protects their supply chain rather well.

OEM (Denso) is not a bad filter.

I have one Napa Gold in my hand,
100332
Mann + Hummel
One Wix Way NC, USA
Made in Mexico...Ah hahahahaha... :unsure::LOL:
Everytime i open up a box and pull out our filter, i am surprised at its Tiny-Tiny Size...

They are all made by Wix, look at "manufacturer" when you scroll down.
NAPA needs to have a full suite of products to be a auto parts store, but they don't really make anything, they just fill space with stuff so customer can have a 1-stop store for parts. Imagine if PepBoys didn't sell oil filters.

I know, i just thought it was funny.
I would rather pay 12.00 for something than 16 for same thing.
Pep Boys here went only service, no store anymore....grrrrrr

Same here. My local Pep Boys combined with Auto Zone in the same building. The Pep Boys side does only service. Go through the separating door to Auto Zone to buy your parts.

The Filter that is recommended for the 21 rav-4 2.5 is not the Wix 51394 That i believe is the old filter # of 90915-03001

The Correct filter crossover is even listed in this thread....
90915-YZZN1-Wix WL10332

I found another Filter & Its made in U.S.A.
Baldwin Filters, it can be searched on their website or purchased at Grainger.com

BALDWIN FILTERS, 3/4" Thread Size - Automotive Filters, 3 in Lg, Oil Filter - 2KYF4|B33 - Grainger $9.88

B33 - Baldwin - Spin-on Lube Filters | Baldwin (baldwinfilters.com)

Since Toyota Updated their Filter on the Rav-4 to the 90915-YZZN1, they have yet to certify it for the Rav-4, however it is certified on the Toyota 90915-03001
Which is Wix-51394

WL10332 is just a shorter version of 51394, but WL has the 11-14 valve, 51394 has the 8-11 valve. Wix does not post the beta #'s for the WL filter.
My guess, 90915-YZZN1 is just a std COTS item by Denso for Toyota, it works on Toyota small engine across their fleet, it's smaller and it costs less.

Between the two Wix items, I would choose the 51394.

Did you go look at the Baldwin Filter, it does have a 14 PSID By-Pass Valve.
Just Sharing what i found out. i do like that is a USA part.

I bought Purolator L14477 after I saw it cut open next to a Baldwin B37. It has more square inches of filtering media, and at $2.40/ea on Amazon, I could change the filter every 2500 miles if I want.

Personal opinion, nothing else: if the bypass MATCHES the OEM, use what YOU are comfortable with.
