I"m fighting a stubborn P0171 code (system too lean) on my 2005 Rav4 (195,000 miles). Previously also had P0442 and P0446 codes, so here what was replaced so far:
  • Fuel cap (OEM)
  • Fuel Filler Neck (was rusted through)
  • Charcoal canister (replacing this is what removed the P0442 and P0446)
  • Upstream A/F sensor
  • MAF sensor
  • a few vacuum hoses
  • PCV valve
  • air filter
Running out of ideas for the P0171. Anyone have suggestions? Thanks!

Never mind, fixed the fault:

  • replaced the aftermarket MAF sensor with the original (which I thought had originally failed) OEM MAF sensor. Sprayed the heck out of it with MAF cleaner
  • Also, there were a couple cracks in the end of the PCV tubing (but no cracks extended past the hose clamp). Snipped off the cracked end and tightened the hose clamp

Cleared the code with a scan tool, ran it for 4 days of driving (code didn't come back), passed emissions, and got my plates renewed. It was a good day
