So I pulled into the garage and moved the lever to N and then pushed the engine start button to turn off the engine. The car was in accessory mode and the MID told me this fact. I slide the lever to P and released my foot from the brake pedal. I then felt the car roll up against the park paw in the transmission. This concluded the fact that the parking brake is not set in this scenario. I opened the drivers door and felt the door unlock as I pulled the lever so the slide to park did not perform the door unlock function. For some reason, I expected the car to turn off from accessory mode to fully off but the MID just warned me to turn off the car. By the way, opening just the drivers door did not unlock the other doors since I was alarmed a bit when I went to open a rear door and had the car react as if it was locked; which in fact it was.
This morning, I did the same scenario but this time I set the parking brake manually between sliding the lever to N and turning off the vehicle. This provided a bit more similar "parked vehicle" result except the radio was on.
Basically, a lot to remember if you are on a call and want to complete. It would make more sense to leave the vehicle in accessory mode after turning off the car and then turn it off when you open the door. To me this make more sense. I asked a buddy at work how his 2018 Subaru does it and he told me that opening the door turns everything off.
Are we sure there isn't a setting that we're missing?
