Could someone tell me where to start to remove interior trim so I can uncover the JBL amp which is located in the right rear side? I need to run speaker wires to my new Alpine head and am going to splice into the factory speaker wires at the JBL amp instead of running new wires from all of the doors. At the same time I'm going to take the JBL amp out of service.

I know most of the trim simply snaps in and out, however I also know where you start to pry while disassembling can make the difference between breaking a part or removing it successfully.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Actually you need to remove the trunk floor trim for the rear door, unscrew the 2nd and 3rd row seatbelt, take out the screws inside the tonneau cover holes and the cargo net pole holes, and then start prying until you hit a snag and see what else needs to be removed. I think you had to remove the rear door floor trim as well but I can't remember since I removed it to run wires.

Here's a link to pics of it from when I did it.

Would it be the same or easier to run it straight to the doors? You need to run all the speaker wires back there anyway, so you would still have to take out the bottom door panels and such to run the speaker wire. May not be that much more difficult to run it right to the speaker.

I looked at that option first and counted it out. The original speaker wire exits the front lower inside edge of each door and then snakes through a rubber boot which goes into the A pillar just above the seat belt bolt. Unfortunately, the wires don't just pass into the A pillar through an open hole, instead Toyota has a plastic wire plug filling the hole and the wires passing through it. I've read elsewhere in these forums that although it can be done, it's pretty tricky drilling through that plastic plug without damage.

Update

I called Crutchfield and believe it our not, they had a full pictorial layout on how to remove the trim necessary to get to the JBL amp. They already supplied me with a wiring diagram of the amp, so it should be easy to get my speaker connections right there.

Besides, this will now also allow me to remove JBL amp and I'll pull the sub woofer out too? Removing them both will save weight.

MrP - Want to scan it in and post it? I'm sure someone else will need to know.

Also I just put a switch between the amp and sub so I can turn it on or off for when the JL subs are in or out.

Well, I'll try but no promises. Problem is, I'll have learn how to do that and these pictures were emailed to me as xps files. I think that means they need to be converted and there are 46 pictures.

Trim Removal Pictures

OK, here's the link to the pictures showing the order of disassembly of the interior trim to access the JBL amp. There is no written procedure, just pictures. However, the pictures are pretty self explanatory. Good luck, I'm ripping mine apart tomorrow.

UpDate: I did the removal today and I wanted to add one note. When you get to the very last step which actually is the removal of the main quarter panel trim, start by prying the lower back right corner first and then work up towards the window and finally across the top towards the front. The front edge will then easily unclip from the door's weather stripping.

I wasn't sure where to start when I got to this point so I thought I pass this on.

Thanks for posting this. Now using this I would be able to reach my JBL AMP
