My '97 has 178tmls on it. I do use it to go to work, but not all the time. It is 4wd and 5sp. The fuel usage is not bad, but as others have mentioned there is compression loss, wheel bearings are getting old and loose, it does burn oil and differant body parts rattle with squeaky brakes. All in all though it still drives ok and I will continue to use it as a back up when my other cars are in the shop. The 1st gen RAV's are pretty tough, but they will still wear out over time.
