I'm debating on whether I want to put some sort of decal on my hard shell spare cover. NOT A STICKER :?

Has anyone thought about this and does anyone know of a place (online is fine) to get them?

I have no idea what I want (if I want it) but I do know it would be modest and classy.

Thanks

You can get Collegiate, Military, NASCAR, NHL, NFL, and many other emblems. I too thought the spare cover was a great place esthetically to show off a tasteful emblem. Even maybe something feline since the RAV is such a snow cat and purrs at idle 8) while a V6 roars like a lion

Here's some web search results for "auto emblems":

http://www.chromeemblems.com/

http://www.collegegear.com/sf/stores/1335/

http://www.licenseplatesonline.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=L&Category_Code=embl < NHL, NFL

http://store.nascar.com/sm-auto-emblems--fi-1284516_cp-2056639.2056464.html < NASCAR

DO YOUR OWN SEARCH FOR SOMETHING MORE SPECIFIC - IT'S OUT THERE ON THE WEB!!!!!

I know nothing about decals...maybe you can answer a few questions for me.

If you were to put a decal on the spare tire cover (such as the ones some have linked us to)...are they removeable? semi-perm? perm? Can you just take them on and off on a whim? Will they hurt the cover in any way?

Also...I'm a graphic artist...and, would love to design my own. I have an idea of what I would like...but, I'm curious what others would find interesting...something that would look sharp on the back of the RAV. So, if you could have ANY decal on the back of your RAV....what would it be?

Thanks!

p.s. Not only am I am a graphic artist...but, I also teach computer graphics.

I've seen metal rust behind magnetic signs, but that shouldn't be an issue here. If the decal is there for any length of time the paint around it will fade faster than the paint under the decal. Even if you can get the decal off without removing the paint, and get the glue off ( which is usually a royal pain ... although I have done it with synthetic enamel reducer) the spot will still look a slightly different color.

So did you ever get one? I was going to get a cover with a hard faceplate with a picture I took myself, but now they're saying i can't put it over the hard shell and I don't want to get rid of the hard shell, so I thought maybe I'd do a decal of the picture instead.

You can get vinyl decals, custom made or many predesigned styles, from signspecialist.com. They can use their fonts or yours, your original artwork or something you create with photoshop or whatever.

The quality is great and they can be removed easily with no damage. They will last a long time. They made these for both sides for me for $50 including a bottle of installation fluid which I recommend. An installation video is provided.

I thought removing the Limited badge would be a big deal, but one of the many things I have learned here is that the badges are just stuck on with double sticky tape and can be easily removed with fishing line or dental floss.

It was about 40 here so I heated up the badges with a heat gun, the limited and rav4 badges are plastic so I damaged them, no worries. The toyota emblem and 4wd badge on the back door are metal and come off without damage. It took me less than a half hour to remove all 5.

Since I have a 2004 RAV with a potential for the stripped head bolt problem, on my 2.4 litre, IF I have a problem, I have my spare cover decal at the ready. as follows;

SCREWED by Toyota's Head Bolt Defect - OH WHAT A FEELING!!

Wow! A New Yorker with a negative attitude

Why not think positive, and make a sticker that says "sure glad I didn't have the head bolt problem" then you can take it off if you do. Toyota makes mistakes, like the rest of us.

decal

So this is what I got, it's my own picture and it was printed at a vendor I use for work and they also do auto wraps and stuff, so they did a really good job on the install.

And yeah, you can see the stupid boomerang thing, but that's ok.

You took that picture? You must be a pro photographer! And with the boomerang it appears as if the people are looking at a rainbow.

Thanks, I did take it, yes! But not for money, just for fun!

I did take some pix of a rainbow when I was there, but the cool thing about the sunsets down the shore is that everyone goes up on their rooftops to watch. They were just a random family a few houses in front of us.
