Rav4 P0300 code. Counterfeit spark plugs.

I had a P0300 code for random cylinders’ misfire for a couple weeks now. Today I went to check the spark plugs and all six plugs’ electrode had worn down badly. They were on the car for a little less than 40,000 miles. They are supposedly Denso Iridium in Toyota packaging from EBAY.

Wow, that's terrible and unfortunate. Here was a thread on how to spot fake ones, and from the official Denso PDF in case you haven't seen them before.

Thanks for that info. The only thing is the Denso PDF site seems to have a few spelling/grammar mistakes that I wouldn't have expected.
The original language was likely Japanese, so whichever/whoever translator they used didn't understand the proper spelling and grammar. How often do I use "malpractice" in my everyday speech (not a lawyer)? :D
This is why you should always buy spark plus from a reputable place. Amazon has a lot of fakes also. If you don't want to pay the extra at your local parts store then try Rockauto.

Get the good ones and you won't have to touch them again.

You can tell these are not even Iridium. The tip is usually very thin. You should never buy the spark plugs from Ebay because they are notorious for selling fake spark plugs.

And a lot of other counterfeit items as well, especially vehicle parts including also those for motorcycles.

I used RA for many years. Last year I ordered Denso cabin air filter/rear wiper blade. You would not believe what they sent me ,could not even use the filter-wiper blade streaks. And since the hassle that they have for returns I had to eat it. Since the pandemic quality of parts, and I'm sure fakes are abundant. I now look for coupons and have to pay dealer prices for now.

The "Iridium tip" eroded away. Those stubs are the base. I would imagined real Iridium last much much longer.

I just used Rock auto as an example. If you don't like them then there's many local parts dealers you can get genuine spark plugs from. Just might cost a little bit more.
Yeah, real Iridium doesn't disappear like that.
Plus the Toyota plugs need to be high ignitability type, two tips, one on the ground too.

These original OEM 120k came out of my other 2GR-FE and the tips definitely lasted.

Lesson learned.
Never, ever buy durable goods from fake Bay (Amazon is not much better).
