Why the heck would they do this? I know there's a dinky little light
you can switch on when you open the rear door, but why
not have it so the rear dome lights automatically come on instead?
That little light on the door itself is practically useless. When you swing the door open,
it doesn't shine on the rear interior storage space.
They put so much R & D into a new vehicle.....and then this?

I guess it just goes to show...it's always something.
They gotta cut a corner someplace! Pain in the neck though.

Doesn't the dome light have a switch on it like older rav4s so you can choose if it comes on with the rear door or now?

dome light

I hear you :!:
The dome light placement in the 4.2 is no better. It is over head, but when you have a tonneau/cargo cover the light can't shine through it.

The only good thing about it. It does come on automatically with the other interior lights.

Sure, I have it switched so it comes on when the rear door is open.
But, since that light is on the door itself (and you're swinging the door
open) it no longer shines on the interior like an overhead light would.

Well, what I did the other night was just crack open the side door
just enough to get the dome light on till I was through loading.
The light that's on the rear door itself is useable as long as you
don't swing the rear door all the way open. If you do, it just shines
in your eyes instead of in the cargo area. BRILLIANT design!!!

Definitely! Theres an Advanced Auto store about 5 miles from here.
I'll stop in and pick one up. That should do it. 3 - AAA batteries that
last about 100 hours....can't beat that.

OK......got mine in.

It comes in different colors, but this one blends right in. There's a
peel off backing to expose the "stick-um". You also have to pull out
the plastic tab so the batteries (included) make contact.

Thanks again Ken. You saved the day.

It's a cover for a hook that's used to anchor a kid's car seat if it's
used on the 3rd row seat (of which I don't have either).

Looks great! I'm going to head to Auto Zone tomorrow to see if they have any in stock. I think I am going to get the black...the other colors may not look too good with the taupe interior.
