Remote command invocation (Spec-B) failed message

Hey guys, I've picked up my 23 Prime SE last week and trying out things. So far I couldn't get the car start with the Toyota app. I'm still keep getting an error message that reads "remote command invocation spec-b failed". Any ideas how to resolve this issue?

The other thing was that the dealer did sell autodimming homelink mirror as an optional upgrade to me and it turned out that is not compatible with my car model in the first place. Is there any other toyota digital rearview mirror available that is compatible for the prime se?

What do you mean by "start" the car? You can turn on the AC remotely with the App... but I'm not sure if that feature is available to the SE in Canada.
I've had that error come up if I HOLD the start button in the app. Just tap instead of holding it.

Digital rear view mirror? Do you already have the digital rear view mirror that is a display, not a reflective mirror? If so, there is no other mirror that I know of that will had the Homelink capability.

However, if you have a reflective mirror (without HomeLink buttons) this thread will be helpful: 2019+ Toyota Rav4 Homelink / Auto Dimming Mirror Installation - YouTube

When I just tap the start button, it's opening the climate control page in the app.

The climate control works in the app, along with the lock and unlock functions. The only thing that's not working is the remote start function via the app.

Thank you for the link. The car came with the reflective mirror as a standard.
The climate control IS the remote start. The ICE starts if you select the defroster to also turn on, but there is no control of the engine start other than that. The "remote start" on the Prime is simply turning on the climate control to warm/cool the interior before you get in.

Which ironically barely works in actual cold climates. Need the ICE to start in those conditions.

I used an auto dimming/Homelink/compass mirror from a Tacoma/Sienna that I got off Ebay. You will need a wire harness and a spacer. Good source of used mirrors, wire harnesses, spacers, and information is Bob's Mirrors: Bob's Automotive Mirrors & More, LLC. : Quality rearview mirrors, backup cameras & accessories to upgrade your vehicle

It seems like it though. I called the remote services, and they said the climate control via the app is the starting the engine, also the spec-b command was due to the long press of the start in the app.

I started to have issues with remote start after recent update. 2021 Prime xSE, same Spec B error
Paid service, btw.
Can start on same year venza, but not Rav4
All other remote functions are ok.
Toyota is aware, but more calls will speed up the fix.
They actually tried to BS me twice to avoid giving refund on paid service they charge but can’t deliver

There is no press and hold to start for prime. Tap the start button once and it brings up the climate control. You can't start the ice engine remotely on a Prime with the app.

Well, (I think depending on the ambient temp) the ice engine will start if the defroster is turned on in the climate control screen. Not sure if it needs to be front or rear or both.

The press and hold will result in the error reported, at least in the iPhone app.

Only if the car is on (ready) can the engine start. Otherwise it will never start.

Not true. My ICE has started many times using the app. But the defroster has to be selected on. (And I expect the ambient temp cold enough)

I tried exactly what you described with my 2021 XSE (with Premium Package) and it doesn't work, not with warm temperatures, cool temperatures, nor frigid temperatures. The heat pump and fan make a helluva racket, but the engine never started. Once it got really cold, nothing happened at all.

Don't know what to tell you. My ICE remote starts under cold conditions with the defrosters on.
Toyota finally confirmed the bug and promised to fix it in June.
I was fed with “it’s a trial”, “your car does not have remote start “ BSes multiple times.
I pay for the service, over 2 years for Prime XSE. Offered free extension for Toyota failure to provide the service

Your car does not have remote start. The ICE will never come on using the app or key fob. These only turn on the heat pump for climate control.
