So, yesterday we took possession of our 2021 Toyota RAV4 XLE hybrid. After going over the tech with the tech guy and finishing up all the paperwork, we never realized until later yesterday that the app doesn't show the remote start that I've seen in the pictures of the app screens. Is there something I'm missing that I need to do to get that up there on my screen?

What do you press on the farb to remote stsrt?
Lock, lock, hold lock for like 5 or more seconds. The car will start blinking like a Christmas tree, then stop, then blink again and start the motor. It’s quite annoying compared to most other remote start systems.

But I’ve read that even the fob-activated remote start requires the package with the premium audio, and is only good for the first 10 years. After that, an active Toyota Connect subscription is required.

I learned this the hard way with my XLE Premium. Unless you have the Audio Plus package, you do not have remote start.
Yeah, that's the only info I found after I posted the question here as well. I'm a little perturbed seeing as the dealership knew this was one of my top priorities in a new car and not one of them said that was the only way to get it. Not happy with the fact that's not easily found on the website either.

I don't know about the authenticity of this item---but it appears legit.

I'm looking at the build sheet for my 2021 RAV4 Hybrid Limited. I have the Advanced Technology Package and, under Interior, I have Premium Audio, but no mention of Audio Plus or a Package by that name. I haven't looked at apps on the screen. Am I gonna freeze my keester this Winter?!

When I bought my 21 XLE Hybrid Standard back in July, part of the deal was to add remote start & heated seats. The remote app doesn't work due to the car has the base radio system. I have to press the fob (Lock Button) 3 times & the car starts & runs for 15 minutes. I can only remote start 2 times in a row. After that, I get in the car to start & go.

My wife found the app buggy but she struggles with tech generally speaking. I’ve been remote starting all winter and it’s only failed twice. One of those times we were in a region with very bad cell service so I blame that.

If you only need to start the car from a (very) short distance, like house to its own driveway, the fob will do. The range seems akin to a TV remote. It’s pathetic compared to other fobs I’ve owned.

If she’s got an iPhone she can just tell Siri “start my car”. I never open the app. Siri works pretty good for this.

If you use the App remote start, in two and a half years (my 2019) you will require to pay a yearly connection fee ($85) to keep the App remote working. If you buy an aftermarket with an App, they will charge a yearly fee for the remote connection too. Plus the Toyota and many non-US cars will stop the engine when you open the door/trunk. My Sonata will keep running as will every US make car.

Thanks for sharing that. I have the app, but this is quicker.
Actually, if you go to the app and enable the Siri commands all you have to do is say “Hey Siri, start my Toyota” and it does it immediately. That’s the quickest way. With the key fob remote start you have to be within a certain(close) range. With the app or Siri you can start it pretty much anywhere.
