I replaced the stock halogen bulbs with LED bulbs for $16.49 in under 10 minutes.

Alla Lighting H11 LED Fog Light Bulbs DRL 2800lm Xtreme Super Bright H11 LED Bulb 5730 33-SMD 12V LED H11 Bulb for LED H8 H16 H11 Fog Lights DRL - 6000K Xenon White https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H6X6PM2/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_x-lsDbWSBT3A3

1. Remove one screw and two tabs in wheel well
2 Pull wheel well liners back to reveal stock bulbs
3. Disconnect power cord to bulb, twist bulb to remove
4. Install new bulb, twist to lock. Reconnect power cord to new bulb
5. Test and replace screws and tabs

Stock halogen bulb installed

Old halogen removed

One screw and two tabs is all that you need to remove to access the fog light bulb

New LED on top, old halogen at the bottom

The bulbs I bought on Amazon for $16.49 a pair

Stock halogen fog on the left, new LED on the right

Do the fog lights turn on and off automatically the way the head light do.

The fog lights are controlled by the fog light switch, which gives you two options: OFF or ON with headlights. If your vehicle is equipped with Automatic Headlights, then the fog lights can be set to turn on together with the headlights automatically. There is no way to turn on just the fog lights (without having the headlights on).

Hi All, newbie in the forum, second RAV-4 2006 and now 2019.

I got the LE and would love to have the fog lights, it does have the auto high/low beams, any idea if it would be too hard to DYI it? Any ideas would be welcomed.

That's to comply with state laws.

I took your advice and bought the same bulbs. I also followed your installation instructions.

My Rav4 looks great now, thanks!!

May i see a photo of the light output at night? Why would people purchased the LED Upgrade from Toyota for the foglights if they can just do this?

Because the original halogen housing may not be suited for the LED bulbs and may introduce more glare to oncoming motorists, and at least one person told me that their halogen fog light housing lens melted due to the heat from the LED bulb, and some LED bulbs have ballasts so you have to secure them somewhere inside the bumper. The OEM LED upgrade is simply changing the halogen housing with the LED housing. Less than 5 min. of work.

This seems to be a VITAL piece of information … Not worth the risk for me.

This claim makes no sense since LED typically run much cooler than halogen!?

Unless they put some kind of crazy bright H16 that has a fan equipped, the H16 LED replacement I installed runs substantially cooler than the stock halogen it replaced:

Agreed. I had trouble taking out the stock halogens since they were incredibly hot after being on for just a few minutes. After I put in the LEDs I checked the temperature and they were cool. $16 well spent.

I asked the nearby dealer regarding Toyota's LED fog light upgrade. I wanted to confirm if the Toyota LED upgrade is a "system" (with bulbs and ballasts) or just simply bulbs. The parts rep said that the upgrade is merely an LED bulb swap (about $140/pair). With that being said, I'm considering getting the Zevo LED H16 bulbs from Sylvania. They look very well made with good specs for only $70/pair. I tend to go more with Philips, but I don't believe they make an LED H16 bulb.

I'm not too sure about the Alla brand brought up by the OP. Then again, I've never looked into LED bulbs for fog lights until now. Anyone try the Sylvanias yet?

I tried the Allas. At the lowest I could aim it, the lights still aimed higher than the main lights. I ended up getting OEM LEDs for about $90 from BAM

Hey Steve, that's a good price for the OEM LED fogs. What is BAM? and what brand bulbs are the OEMs rebranded as?

About $90-$100 with coupon you find online. These are led including the housing, not just the bulb.

I'm giving these a shot. Just ordered. Will report back with images once they arrive and are installed.
