Part Numbers
(not guaranteed; triple check all)

-- Oil seal (for control shaft cover) 90311-18013 (or 33528C). Aftermarket part numbers as given by rockauto.com: Timken 1015N and SKF 7002
Shaft size: 0.709 inch
Housing Bore (what the seal fits into) = 1.102 inch
O.D. (should be a bit larger than the housing bore) = 1.1111 inch

-- Dust boot 33531-12020 (or 33531B)

-- Gasket, control shift lever retainer 33584-20020 (or 33584A)

-- Gasket (crush washer) for lock bolt 90430-12008 (or 33266D)? Double check this. Many parts sites say this is for the tranny drain bolt. But I think the same gasket (crush washer) is used on the lock bolt. Possibly also 90430-18008 or 90430-A003? Note that the instructions above say the lock bolt has a 24mm head. The manual tranny drain bolts also have a 24mm head. The manual tranny drain bolts take gasket 90430-18008.

Parts Likely Not Needed
Bolt (for shift inter lock plate) 90109-18002 (or 33266A). Lock bolt? Triple check this.

Torque Specs
See page 14 of the attachment.
-- The lock bolt gets 36 ft-lbs.

-- The four bolts fastening the "shift and select lever shaft assembly" in place get 14 ft-lbs.

Eunos and Mick, thank you for the great write-up and photos.

I completed this chore the other day. Going at a slow pace with lots of breaks, it took me about eight hours. Without Eunos's write-up above, replacing the oil seal would have taken me much longer. For my 2WD Rav4, I did not remove the wheel nor put the Rav4 on a jackstand. I found I had plenty of space without removing the wheel. For my write-up with photos, go to Elle's 1996-00 Toyota Rav4 Site and click on "Shift & Select Lever Shaft Assembly (Oil Seal Replacement)."
