Had my 2001 awd rav up on a hoist to have a front pipe stud fixed due to having a bit too much fun off road. I mentioned to my mechanic that i was considering a skid plate in the near future.
He advised me to have one installed before i venture out again off road. That oil pan imo is in a very bad location. Not just for off roading...but even for severe winter driving. I could see a chunk of ice on the road, hitting the pan head on without much effort.
...He said he could build a nice skid plate for $150-$200 parts and labor. Can anyone recommend a good thickness to use? what size bolts? steel or aluminum plate?
Thanks.
