There is a bit of freeplay when moving the shifter side to side, and a significant amount of play in the shift selector bell [33534E, bottom right] on the transmission.
Seems like a straightforward repair except for two issues:
Bushing 33534F [9038612022] has been discontinued. I found a few places selling 90386-12022 with the dash in it, but these refer to an accelerator bushing instead of a transmission or shift bushing, so I'm not sure it's the right part.
There doesn't seem to be aftermarket bushings for Rav4 shift cables available either. Rav4gtt's website says that bushing for a 93+ Celica will work, but he has a 98 Rav4, and I'm not sure they'll fit on a 97 too. 97-00 Ravs all use the same shift cables, so hopefully the Celica bushings fit? If anyone knows for sure it'd be really helpful.
