Has anyone else encountered this. I have a 4.2 with 7,000 miles and everything is fine. But, on two recent occasions there was a smell after stoping at the top after going up a decent grade. It could be a transmission smell. I will have to check it out closer next time. At first I thought it was someone elses vehicle parked next to mine. It could also be the traction control causing one brake to drag maybe. I will post again once I try again and determine it is not the brakes by spraying a little water on the disc...no sizzle will mean they aren't the issue. I really think it is a drive train issue becuase it is a unique smell and the drive train is unique! Just wanted to throw this out in case the problem is more common.

The most common thing probably is fluid.

Did you look around in the engine compartment for a loose cap?

Get a clean cloth and wipe around the oil, rad (when cold), brake, steering fluid, windshield wash. caps.
Also double check all of the levels.

Other common smells unrelated, are when someone gets a new muffler and it heats up orr when i get rustproofing (Oil spray) on the car and it burns off.

cheers,

Walt

How steep, how fast were you going, what gear, what RPM, etc.
