Hi, I bought my 2009 Rav4 used and the trunk has a dog smell I just can't get out no matter what I use. Was wondering for any tips on getting smells out or how to remove the carpet and replace it.
Thank you!

What have you tried so far?

First, you should definitely shampoo the carpets. Use whatever automotive carpet cleaner you prefer. I like Tuff Stuff. Works well and leaves a clean smell.

Then spray an air and fabric freshener that actually eliminates odors instead of just hiding them. I like Ozium. It's really strong though, so spray it heavily in the air and on the carpet then close the car and let it sit for a bit. Then turn on the A/C fan and let the air recirculate throughout the car. Then you can open the windows and let it all air out. Your carpet needs to dry too.

If that doesn't work, you could try paying a professional detailer. They sometimes have access to stronger products and/or an ozone machine (expensive!).

If that doesn't work, I suppose you could replace some of the carpeting, but it isn't going to be cheap.
